Capital Wales is where business never stops learning
Reinventing our economy meant rethinking our education policy.
We learned quickly. We were one of the first regions to gear our higher education
curriculum directly to the needs of local industry.
We were the first area to develop a Regional Technology Plan with 35 centres for technology-specific training.
Today, a higher percentage of the population is in higher education than in any other area of the UK.
A record number of young people are part of the Modern Apprenticeship Programme that covers 100 skilled occupations. From the 5 universities and 7 further education institutes, companies in Capital Wales have an accessible pool of talent to draw on.
The quality of life means more graduates are eager to settle in the area, and Cardiff
University has contributed directly to the development of automotive and electronic
industry clusters.
The University also helps to generate new business ideas and spin-out
companies in the region; technology transfer activities, from start-up companies and
the licensing of new products to industry, contribute tens of millions of pounds to the
economy each year.
Capital Wales is where business never stops learning.
