TV series like Dr. Who, Torchwood and Life on Mars have put the region on the media map. Facilities like the new £300 million Dragon International Studio's are creating the largest concentration of film and TV production outside of London.
In turn, there is a thriving community of creative companies making their name in animation, design, and digital arts. Contributing £750 million to the Welsh economy, creative industries are growing much faster than the economy as a whole and the Welsh Assembly Government is encouraging the trend.
A Business Support Network has been established with experienced advisors in the creative industry and the successful @Wales Digital Media Initiative is just one organisation accelerating the growth of creative start-ups and innovative SME's.
Sir Martin Evans a professor of mammalian genetics at Cardiff University has been awarded the 2007 Nobel Prize for medicine for his work on stem cells.
