Capital Wales is where everyone comes out to play
Capital Wales is still a spiritual home of rugby. Despite the varying fortunes of the national side, the passion remains. You haven't experienced anything until you've heard the Millennium Stadium in full voice during a rugby international.
The FA Cup may have moved back to Wembley, but the area is still a focus for world-class sporting events. In 2012 preliminary rounds of the Olympic football tournament come to the Millennium Stadium.
The spotlight isn't always on Cardiff. In 2010 a rejuvenated Newport and The Celtic Manor Resort will play host to the Ryder Cup - a fitting tribute to a region that has more golf courses per head of population than any area in the UK.
Newport is also home to the Wales National Velodrome. Built as part of an international sports village, it is one of only two cycling facilities of its kind in the UK, giving the region a second, significant sporting city.
Cavers, paragliders, surfers, canoeists and other adventure sports enthusiasts are discovering the delights and challenges of our stunning landscape and coastline.
The area is fast gaining
an international reputation for mountain biking.
Over 120km of purpose-built, all-weather
trails at Cwmcarn and Afan Forest Park attract professional riders and beginners alike.
Afan Forest Park has been the venue for the Single Speed World Championships and facilities
like these have led the International Mountain Biking Association to rate Wales as one of the
top ten MTB destinations in the world.
Capital Wales is where everyone comes out to play.
